Full Mouth Rehabilitation in Chennai — Restore Function, Health and Your Complete Smile

Some patients arrive at our clinic having lived with dental problems for years — missing teeth they have learned to work around, worn-down molars from years of grinding, an old bridge that finally failed, or a bite that has shifted so far from normal that eating certain foods has become impossible. For these patients, a single procedure is not the answer. What they need is full mouth rehabilitation.

Full mouth rehabilitation at M and M Advanced Dentistry, Adyar is a systematically planned, multi-phase treatment that addresses every dental problem in the mouth — not in isolation, but as an integrated whole. The result is a complete restoration of oral function, health, and appearance that can last decades.

What Is Full Mouth Rehabilitation and Who Needs It?

Full mouth rehabilitation — also called full mouth reconstruction or complete oral rehabilitation — is a treatment approach that combines multiple restorative and surgical dental procedures to rebuild all or most of the teeth in both jaws simultaneously. Unlike a single crown or a single implant, full mouth rehabilitation treats the mouth as a system: the way teeth meet, how the jaw moves, the health of the supporting gum and bone, and the appearance of the final smile are all planned together before the first procedure begins.

This treatment is fundamentally different from a smile makeover. A smile makeover is cosmetic — veneers, whitening, gum contouring — applied to teeth that are structurally healthy. Full mouth rehabilitation is clinical. It is prescribed when the teeth themselves, the bite, and the supporting structures are compromised and require structural rebuilding before aesthetics can be addressed.

The Full Mouth Rehabilitation Process — Phase by Phase

1

Phase 1 — Diagnosis, planning and temporary restorations

Your first two appointments involve a comprehensive clinical examination, full-mouth X-rays, CBCT scanning where required, and the creation of study models. We photograph your smile, analyse your bite with articulator-mounted models, and produce a written treatment plan with a full procedure list, timeline, and itemised cost estimate.

2

Phase 2 — Foundation treatments (gum, bone, root canal)

All gum disease is treated and resolved. Any teeth requiring root canal treatment are completed. Bone grafting or sinus lift procedures for implant sites are performed and allowed to heal. This phase typically takes 4–12 weeks.

3

Phase 3 — Restorative and implant placement

Implants are placed in planned positions, confirmed against the CBCT-guided plan. Once integrated (6–12 weeks), provisional crowns are placed on the implants.

4

Phase 4 — Final permanent restorations and review

All permanent crowns, bridges, and implant crowns are seated in the correct sequence, with bite checks and adjustments at every stage. A full-mouth photograph series documents the final result.

Frequently Asked Questions

A smile makeover is a cosmetic treatment applied to teeth that are structurally healthy — veneers, whitening, gum reshaping to improve appearance. Full mouth rehabilitation is a clinical treatment for teeth that are structurally compromised, missing, damaged, worn, or misaligned. In practice, the final phase of full mouth rehabilitation often includes smile design elements, so the two can overlap.

At M and M Advanced Dentistry, treatment duration ranges from 8 weeks (crowns and bridges only, no implants) to 6–9 months (multiple implants with bone grafting and full arch restorations). The timeline depends on the number of procedures, healing times required between surgical phases, and laboratory fabrication schedules.

Every procedure within the rehabilitation is performed under local anaesthesia or, for more complex surgical cases, with IV sedation if preferred. The procedures themselves are painless. Post-operative discomfort after implant placement or gum surgery is typically managed with prescribed medication and resolves within 3–5 days.

Yes, and in most cases it is done in stages by design. The phased approach is both clinically necessary (healing time must be respected between surgical phases) and financially manageable — patients pay for each phase as it is completed rather than the full cost upfront.

With proper maintenance, zirconia crowns and bridges last 15–20+ years. Dental implants, once integrated, can last a lifetime. The longevity of the full rehabilitation depends on consistent oral hygiene, six-monthly professional cleans, and wearing a night guard if bruxism was a contributing factor.
